In memory of First Lady Walker, the J.W. Walker Ministries Millennium Scholars Scholarship Program transcended to a new dimension. The primary purpose of the Dr. Diane Greer Walker Memorial Scholarship Fund, formerly known as the J.W. Walker Ministries Millennium Scholars Scholarship Program is to help supplement the financial obligations of college students (tuition, books, etc.). In just three years, scholarships enriched the lives of college students across the country.
Scholarships have been awarded to students of various majors at colleges and from universities like Emory University, Fisk University, Tennessee State University, Alabama A&M University, Meharry Medical College, Prairie View A&M University and Hampton University – to name a few. Whether you or someone whom you know is planning to attend college, the Dr. Diane Greer Walker Memorial Scholarship Fund is positioned to globally serve college students.
The vision of the Dr. Diane Greer Walker Memorial Scholarship Fund does not stop with financial support. The scholarship program is also designed to develop leaders of the twenty-first century who represent diversity at its best. For the 2006 school year, the scholarship program will expand to new levels of development and empowerment.
Each year the Daughters of the Promise, under the leadership of Co–Pastor Deborah B. Morton, General Overseer of the Women's Division of the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship, gives continuing education scholarships to women ages 30 and over. In July, the scholarship was renamed the Daughters of the Promise Scholarship: The Dr. Diane Walker Scholarship Fund. Scholarships in the amount of $500.00 are awarded in July and November.

More About the DGW Scholarship Fund
Dr. Diane Greer Walker was a woman who believed passionately in building minds to work. As the wife of Bishop Joseph Walker III she strongly encouraged education through her dedicated involvement in the JWW Scholarship Fund; founded to perpetuate a desire to support undergraduate students. The blessing of her devotion was short lived, however, when her life gave way to a rare form of cancer at the young age of 37. In 2005 the scholarship was renamed as the Dr. Diane Greer Walker Memorial Scholarship Fund. The funds purpose is to help supplement the financial obligations of college students (tuition, books, etc.). However, the vision of the Dr. Diane Greer Walker Memorial Scholarship Fund does not stop with financial support. The scholarship program is designed to develop a diverse group of twenty–first century leaders. Over the last several years the fund has awarded almost $500,000.00 in scholarships.
On September 5, 2008, for the first time in Nashville, TN and only the second time in recorded history, Tennessee State University and Southern University came together for an old fashioned battle of the bands. Bishop Walker, a Southern University alum and former member of the Southern University Jukebox, had a vision to bring the two bands together during the John Merritt Classic thus creating camaraderie and fun competition in yet another effort to build funds for scholarships. The turnout successfully enabled Bishop Walker to stand by his commitment of donating $25,000 to each University.
